Louis-Ulysse Chopard established his watch workshop in the Swiss commune of Sonvilier in 1860. Such was the reputation that his watches earned that people came from all over Europe to buy them from his workshop. In 1937 his son, Paul Louis, moved the headquarters to Geneva, the capital of fine watchmaking.
