In 1942 the sculptor, Germanine Émilie Krebs, known as Madame Grès, founded the Haute Couture and perfume brand Gres. The style of his designs was totally pioneering at the time in terms of evening wear. The exhibition of his creations at the Universal Exhibition in Paris led to him being awarded the first prize for haute couture. In 1959 he presented his first perfume, Cabochard, which would later be renamed Cabotine. She was awarded the Golden Needle in 1976 and in 1980 she tried her luck with a Prêt-à-Porter line. In 1982 he abandoned the world of perfume to rededicate himself to Haute Couture.
