In 1946 the industrialist George Wurz founded Lancaster in Monaco together with Dr. Eugène Frezzati. They were named Lancaster after the Royal Air Force's Lancaster bomber, with which they were able to flee occupied Europe during World War II. In 1971 it became the first brand to introduce a sun care line, and today it remains the number one brand in sun protection.
