The Italian Gianni Versace already had a taste for fashion since he was a child, since he used to help his mother embroider dresses with precious stones and gold thread. After his architecture studies, the brands Genny and Callaghan hired him to design their collections. In the mid-1970s, he presented his first women's clothing collection at the Palazzo della Permanente art museum in Milan, and a few months later he presented his first men's collection. In 1978 he founded the Gianni Versace brand with the inauguration of his first store in Milan's Via della Spiga. In the summer of 1997, the designer was murdered and since then the management of the brand has been in the hands of his sister Donatella.
