Branched-chain essential amino acids (BCAAs) are an important group of essential amino acids made up of leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Branched-chain essential amino acids are among the nine essential amino acids for humans, since our bodies cannot manufacture them. Its only source is our daily food or food supplements. On the other hand, they constitute 35% of the essential amino acids in muscle proteins.

Leucine, isoleucine and valine are essential amino acids provided by the intake of mixed dietary protein from different sources. Branched-chain essential amino acids can also be taken as dietary supplements, particularly during exercise or strenuous physical labor.
