Since the human body is theoretically capable of producing enough vitamin D on its own, in reality vitamin D is not really a vitamin, but rather a hormone. To make vitamin D, the body needs both the precursor cholesterol and UV-B radiation from the sun, and this is where it gets tricky for most people: We spend most of our time indoors.
