After intensive or ultra-long training and competitions, glycogen (stored sugar) has disappeared from the muscles and liver, and the muscles are tired. Restoring muscle glycogen is the main focus during recovery after extreme (endurance) exertion. In this case, it is recommended to take 1 g of carbohydrate per kg of body weight immediately after the effort, and then every 2 hours for the next 6 hours, depending on the duration and intensity of the effort.
In addition, attention must also be paid to the recovery of muscle damage. Protein intake , and in particular amino acids (the components of protein and therefore also of muscle tissue) is indicated for rapid muscle recovery. In addition, the simultaneous intake of proteins and carbohydrates results in a faster recovery of muscle glycogen. Until recently, it was assumed that the immediate intake of 10 to a maximum of 25 grams of protein after an effort was the optimal dose for recovery and muscle regeneration. However, recent research has shown that to ensure optimal recovery, it is preferable for athletes maximally loading large muscle groups to ingest even larger amounts (even up to 40 g) of protein immediately after exertion.

It is naturally very rich in leucine (an essential amino acid with a key role in muscle building) and contains all the essential amino acids in higher concentrations than vegetable protein sources.
